Description

Patients and families with tic disorders have reported difficulty establishing care with clinicians trained in Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) and subsequently committing to an 8–12-week treatment regimen. This can be especially challenging for pediatric patients who have limited awareness around their tics, which can make it harder for them to manage their symptoms and consequently lead to difficulties in social, emotional, and academic/occupational domains. Thus, additional options to expand access to CBIT for pediatric patients and families affected by tic disorders are necessary. This presentation presents a caregiver-focused group that applies principles of CBIT to educate parents about tics and tic disorders and changes they can make to their environment to improve their child’s tic presentation (functional assessment and intervention). Presenters will provide an overview of the rationale for this group along with curriculum specifics, key findings, lessons learned, future considerations, and involvement of trainees/training settings.
